Blackpool has a long and proud relationship with Breakin’ Convention, the world-renowned hip hop dance theatre festival. The Grand Theatre first welcomed the convention in 2014, with further unforgettable performances in 2016 and 2017. A show was planned for 2020 but sadly cancelled due to the pandemic. Thankfully, the convention returned in 2023, and now, in 2026, it’s back once again to light up Blackpool’s stage.
For House of Wingz, this relationship means everything. The opportunity to produce work for the stage is something we never take lightly. A highly acclaimed dance theatre show coming to town is one thing, but a hip hop dance theatre convention is something we truly value. When we heard Breakin’ Convention would be back for the 2026 season, we were thrilled and immediately began creating a piece to audition.
Each time the convention comes to Blackpool, our company has evolved. The crew has grown and changed over the years, bringing fresh energy to every piece we produce. This year, with Franklin and Inimfon joining the team, we’ve been excited to weave their flavour and knowledge into our work. The piece reflects the styles we love most- house, breaking, hip hop, locking, vogue, and afro dance- showcasing the diversity of hip hop at its best.
On Saturday 6th December, our audition took place at House of Wingz alongside six other crews. Jonzi and Michelle from Breakin’ Convention watched as our crew- Inimfon, Franklin, Julia, Orson, Blake, Michael, Scarlett, Erika, and Mollie- shared the work we had poured our hearts into.
We were overjoyed to learn that we had been successful. On Saturday 6th June 2026, we’ll be performing on the Grand Theatre stage, sharing our incredible piece with the world. Co-choreographed by Inimfon, Franklin, Aish, Blake, Julia, and Orson, this production is a true collaboration- one that celebrates the spirit of hip hop and the journey of House of Wingz.
We would love you to join us for the festival- and the full line up of all the activity taking place that weekend will be announced very soon- watch this space!
